Capitalism Nature Socialism (CNS) was founded in Santa Cruz in 1988 as a journal for left researchers and movement-based individuals from around the globe. CNS is an international, multi-disciplinary journal of eco-socialism, encompassing anticapitalist perspectives that are both egalitarian and environmental in orientation. The primary aim of CNS is to help create a red-green intellectual culture, essential to the development of a red-green politics.

CNS is a platform for intellectuals who may be outside or at the margins of academic institutions and it is a forum for encouraging and facilitating critical debates on timely issues of environment and radical politics—feminist, anti-capitalist, anti-fascist, anti-racist, anti-imperialist. We believe that debates are essential to building new forms of thought and strategies on politics and/of the environment, and is ultimately crucial for mobilizing creative political action.

CNS is non-sectarian. We are not affiliated with any political party or organized political tendency and are open to diverse views within left ecology/ecological left movements.

CNS serves as an outlet for those striving to connect/explain ecological and social issues through egalitarian anticapitalist approaches.

We welcome submissions on themes like red-green politics, science/technology and relations of domination, technical/practicable solutions enabling ecosocialist alternatives, environmental movements/politics, political ecology, environmental history, environmental justice/conflicts, workplace and prison struggles, land/community/decolonization struggles, ecosocialist-ecofeminist theory and movements, political economy of environment, and postcapitalist egalitarian futures.
